Born on Christmas Day in 1992 in Kampala, Uganda, Emmanuel Okwi fell in love with football from a very young age. While studying at St. Henry’s College Kitovu, football wasn't just a game for him; it was a path to fulfilling his biggest dreams. He admired Thierry Henry, the Arsenal striker known for his speed, clever play, and knack for scoring. Soon, these very qualities began to shine through in Okwi himself.
He was a natural attacker, always keen to chase open spaces, run behind defenders, and use his speed as a powerful tool. He could play as a central striker or even on the left wing, a position from which he often left defenders in his wake. His journey truly began to take shape at SC Villa, one of Uganda's most historic clubs. Other goals came from Felix Sunzu, Patrick Mafisango (late), and Juma Kaseja. It was the day Simba fans saw the true value of their Ugandan striker. Okwi had everything they loved: speed, courage, and the ability to turn a game around. After that match, his name grew even bigger in Tanzania.

Beyond Tanzania: A Brief Chapter with Yanga
After his success with Simba, Okwi ventured beyond East Africa. In 2013, he signed with Tunisia’s Étoile Sportive du Sahel for a reported $300,000, one of the biggest transfer fees for a player moving from Tanzania at the time. However, this journey faced administrative challenges and payment issues between the clubs. He eventually returned to East Africa, playing again for SC Villa and briefly for Yanga, before making his way back to Simba.
Okwi is one of the few foreign players who had the unique experience of playing for both Simba and Yanga, joining Yanga in 2013.
