A Missed Opportunity: Yanga's Bid for Girumugisha Falls Short

As Yanga FC gears up for the 2025-2026 season, there's been some buzz about a player they almost signed. Apparently, the Tanzanian champions were among several clubs hoping to secure the Burundian international winger, Jean Claude Girumugisha, from Al Hilal Omdurman. However, he's now made a big move to Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya for a hefty sum of $5.5 million (about 14.5 billion Tanzanian Shillings).

This transfer has certainly become a hot topic in Kigali, Rwanda, where Al Hilal is currently based. The sheer amount of money involved has put the Sudanese team in a very strong financial position, especially after selling one of their key players.

The Offer That Wasn't Quite Enough

Girumugisha's manager, Patrick Gakumba, shared some interesting details. He revealed that Yanga had actually approached him about bringing the player on board. "Yanga of Tanzania contacted me about my client Girumugisha," Gakumba explained. "I told them that if they put $1.5 million (around 3.9 billion Tanzanian Shillings) on the table – and this was before other teams made their offers – I would consider it. They told me they would get back to me, but they never did."

It seems that while Girumugisha's name was indeed floating around Yanga, the asking price from Al Hilal was just too high for them at the time. When Al Ahli Tripoli came knocking, they were presented with an even larger figure than Yanga was quoted, and they decided to go for it, ultimately securing the player.
