A Marathon of Heart and Spirit in Dar Es Salaam

The recent CRDB International Marathon in Dar es Salaam was a truly inspiring event, bringing together over 17,000 participants from Tanzania and beyond. It was a wonderful celebration of health, community, and the sheer joy of movement, all organized by the CRDB Foundation.

In the challenging 42-kilometer full marathon, Kenyan athletes truly demonstrated their long-distance prowess. Loyce Kemuma took first place for women, finishing in an impressive 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 26 seconds, with her compatriot Jacinta Chepkoech right behind her in second. For the men, Abraham Kiptum from Kenya crossed the finish line first in 2:15:33, followed by James Mwangi, also from Kenya.

But the podium wasn't exclusively Kenyan! Tanzania's own Jane Chelangat secured a commendable third place in the women's 42km race, and Marco Monko also achieved third in the men's event, showing the strong competitive spirit of local runners.

Local Heroes Shine in Shorter Distances

While the Kenyans dominated the full marathon, Tanzanian athletes truly shone in the shorter distances, making their mark on the podiums for the 21km and 10km races:

  • 21-Kilometer Race: Rebeca Chepkwemoi and Failuna Matanga, both from Tanzania, claimed the top two spots for women, with Kenya's Irene Mkungu finishing third. On the men's side, Tanzanians Simon Kelenzyoki, Ebel Francis, and Boay Dawi swept all three top positions.
  • 10-Kilometer Race: It was an all-Tanzanian affair! Transfora Ngimbudzi, Anna Dolomongo, and Agness Mwaghui took the top three spots for women. For the men, Jumanne Ngoya, Bernard Geay, and Shedrack Hasani proudly secured the first, second, and third places respectively.

It’s truly wonderful to see so many local talents celebrated! Beyond the races themselves, the marathon served a bigger purpose, linking sports with vital community initiatives focusing on health, empowering young people, and fostering local culture and innovation. This event was a beautiful reminder of how coming together for a shared goal can uplift an entire community.
