This collaboration, agreed upon in Zanzibar, aligns perfectly with Tanzania’s big picture plan, Development Vision 2050. The focus is on creating safe job opportunities, inviting investment, and engaging with Tanzanians living abroad to share their skills and resources.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan shared her excitement about building a strategic partnership that truly meets the needs of the Tanzanian people. She highlighted the immense potential in encouraging Tanzanian professionals and workers living overseas – often called the diaspora – to invest in their home country and bring back valuable experiences.

Protecting People, Fostering Growth

A key part of this partnership is making sure that young Tanzanians seeking jobs in other countries can do so safely and fairly. This means working hard to prevent exploitation, human trafficking, and other risks associated with irregular migration. The goal is to establish clear, protected pathways for international employment, ensuring fair contracts and safeguarding workers' rights.

Amy Pope, the IOM Director General, emphasized that the world genuinely needs migrants, and Tanzania has many bright young people seeking opportunities. She stressed IOM's commitment to ensuring migration brings investment, skill development, and growth, all while rigorously protecting job seekers from any harm. IOM also plans to help Tanzania connect with its diaspora, tapping into their skills and helping channel their contributions into productive investments at home.
