Recently, Minister Dorothy Gwajima, who oversees Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, spoke about this commitment. She highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen laws, policies, and social support systems. The goal is clear: to champion gender equality, keep children safe, and make sure people with disabilities are truly included and valued.
Turning Plans into Action

The Minister shared these thoughts at the 4th International Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Learning Forum in Arusha. This important event, hosted by World Vision Tanzania and the government, brought together people from 25 countries. The theme, "Changing Mindsets, Breaking Barriers," perfectly captures the spirit of moving from simple policies to making tangible changes in cultural norms and systemic inequalities.
It's understood that a nation can't truly flourish if some of its people are sidelined. That's why Tanzania is focusing on crucial interventions like its Second National Plan of Action to End Violence against Women and Children, and expanding those vital support centers for survivors of gender-based violence. There's also a strong call for men to join in the effort to end gender-based violence, recognizing that true, lasting change comes from everyone working together.

It was especially moving to hear from Sinyati Moinesi, speaking on behalf of children with disabilities. She reminded everyone about the challenges these children often face, like not being able to easily access education or safe places, and sometimes being left out of important decisions. Her heartfelt request was for continued policy improvements, stronger implementation, and more investment in creating genuinely safe and welcoming environments for all children.
