How to travel here without leaving a mess

Tourism pays for most of Tanzania's conservation. How it's spent depends entirely on who you book with.
Ask whether porters are paid the KPAP recommended rate and weighed fairly. Ask whether cultural visits pay the community directly or a middleman.
Stay at least one night in a community-owned camp. The money stays local and the guiding is often better.
Refill bottles, skip the single-use plastic — it's illegal here anyway — and never ask a guide to go off-road for a photo in a national park.
None of this costs more. It just requires asking one or two more questions before you book.
